TheFuelApp.com
This site will act as repository for a few applications that I have worked one and want to have around for prosperity. The first one I’m putting out is TheFuelApp and is something I have been wanting to do for some time now. It came about when I saw Pumps.ie and the great way that the site presents people with the chance to keep a good eye on prices very easily.
Now that mobile phones and devices have taken a huge step up and started to incorporate GPS and web access, I’m hoping this application can be of use to people. Importantly, I’m putting this up completely for free and am not looking to profit from it. It uses data from Pumps.ie and I hope it want be seen as trying to act dishonestly and steal the great work they have done. I send a message to the management of Pumps.ie via the site but haven’t heard back so I have decided to go ahead and release this.
I will be adding links that will send people back to Pumps.ie to update prices and get service station information. So, if anything, perhaps this will help to get more people updating prices via mobile devices. It was developed with the iPhone (3.0+) in mind but any device with a browser that supports the Geolocation API (such as Firefox 3.5) should work.
Without GPS and only using browser estimations, the actual accuracy can vary. I’m based in Limerick (Ireland), but using Firefox 3.5 it puts me a half a mile from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. See how you get on!
Anyway, please check out my application and let me know how it works and on what devices you have had success. If you do use it, maybe take a minute to update some price information over a Pumps.ie too.
I’ll write an How-To on the interface soon, hopefully it’ll be easy enough to grasp at the moment. If you come across any errors then I’d appreciate if you could drop me a note at bediddlement@gmail.com
